Funny Supreme Court Opinions: Treatment vs. Rent in MOLZOF v. UNITED STATES

MOLZOF v. UNITED STATES certiorari to the united states court of appeals for the seventh circuit No. 90–838. Argued November 4, 1991—Decided January 14, 1992

Under the Government’s reading, an argument could be made that Mr. Molzof’s damages for future medical expenses would have to be reduced by the amount he saved on rent, meals, clothing, and other daily living expenses that he did not incur while . . .hospitalized.

Lesson: You save money when you are in the hospital because everybody knows landlords don't make you pay rent when you are in the hospital. Interpret.
